Oh no! I may have a stricture

I just got back from my 3 mos follow up with my surgeon.  He told me I should be able to tolerate solid food by now.  I can't eat anything more solid than refried beans!.   He is sending me for an Upper GI and then to see a GI specialist.  Has this happend to anyone else?  He said if it is a stricture then the Dr. can stick something down there to stretch the opening.  Sounds scary, because I don't want it to stretch too much and then gain weight back.  I am a little stressed about this.  but the good news is that I am 60 lbs lighter.

Hey I had no stricture and all I did was eat refried beans and cheese for almost 8 months.  If I did eat I puked my guts up.  I just figured I didn't play my cards right in the beginning and just ate the beans and cheese.  Thank heavens I liked them. Then right after my eight months was up I tried eating and things went alot better.  I still can't really eat anything but very moist chicken and small pieces of beef.  I still get in beans and cheese, and sometimes a little rice, but feel pretty normal.

I hope it all works out for you,

Diane

Way to go being 60 lbs lighter.

Linda not to worry...very common.  10% of RNY patients get strictures.  You will be so much happier after it is over and done with.  You should be able to enjoy food alot more.  One other thing...do not freak out if you have to go back a second or third time to get "scoped".  That is very common also.  By the third time probably 95% of scoped people get it totally resolved.  Brian

LInda,

Sorry to hear that you are having issues with food.  I was having the same issues as you, and still do at time.  I did not have a stricture.  I tried some  PAPAYA PINEAPPLE  ENYMES, i take two before i eat and now i can eat the food that i was getting sick with before.. Hope all goes well

I'm so sorry you are having issues sweetie!!!  Strictures are pretty common and easy to fix and like someone else said, common to be repeating once you have them. Don't be scared though, the only thing they are stretching is the little hole opening that goes to your intestine!
Praying they find an answer that you can live with!!!

Linda,
I am sorry you are having such a hard time keeping food down.  I have never had a stricture, but I hear they are very common and easy to resolve.  They don't stretch your pouch they stretch the opening.
